Episode 95: It’s NOT What You Think!

Many times, what we think is an attack from the enemy is actually God using discipline to teach us. One of the lessons He’s been teaching us at Gutsy Faith is endurance.

Hebrews 12:1-3 talks about running a race with endurance. The race is our faith. We need to lay aside anything blocking us (encumbrance) and the sin that entangles us (deliberate independence of God). It’s easier to do this when we fully understand what endurance means.

Endurance is:

  1. The power to stay in an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving up.

  2. A race that carries you a long distance and demands great physical stamina.

Perhaps God is discipling us to endure rather than the enemy trying to get us to quit!

Hebrews 12:7-11 says that God’s discipline doesn’t feel good in the moment but allows us to eventually share His holiness when we’re trained by it. We must stay alert and active in the discipline to receive the reward.

How do you know the difference between God’s discipline and an attack?

ATTACK

Vicious and mean

Unrelenting (Rev 12:10)

Defeated/Empty

Looks to present darkness

Spews lies

GOD’S DISCIPLINE

Clear and challenging

Stops when lesson is learned or you’re ready

Filled with hope

Looks to the future light

Offers truth

God is building our endurance by disciplining our faith…maturity is the outcome.
