Episode 47: My One Word

When God created the world, he used words to launch His actions and to describe its outcome…it is good. Words have power. Words create worlds. All throughout scripture, we see examples of faith being bolstered by words, and God reminding us to speak the RIGHT words in the right seasons.

When we select ONE word to be our focus for a year, we narrow our broad vision to a more intentional, manageable scope. When ONE word steers our vision for a year, we can accomplish much.

How to select a word for your year:

1.     PRAY and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind a word that resonates or instructs. Don’t overthink it. It may be a common word like trust, release, or thrive…whatever surfaces, ask God if that’s your word. You may need to pray over the course of a few days or weeks in preparation to receive the word. It may show up in scripture repeatedly as you read, or it may be a word you know God is stirring to confirm something in you or challenging you to a deeper conviction or purpose.

2.     WRITE your word somewhere you can refer to throughout the year. Go back to it often and record things that align with the word’s purpose in your life.

3.     SHARE your word with someone else. This can be something special within a family or among friends. By sharing your word, you allow other people to be a part of reminding and rejoicing! They can remind you of the word when you’re discouraged and help keep you accountable to continue living it out throughout the year. They can also rejoice when you see reminders of how God faithfully follows through on his promises.

Gari’s word for this year is rise up, based on Isaiah 28:21.

Carla’s is wide open, based on Isaiah 54:3.

As a Gutsy Faith family, let’s all select a word for the upcoming year. Let us know your word so we can be praying for you specifically in this year new!
