Episode 65: Are You PREPARING For What You’re PRAYING For?
Prayer is one of the most misunderstood concepts in the Bible. If we pray and feel as though nothing changes, it’s tempting to think that God didn’t receive our prayer. God DOES answer prayer. Here are a few points to understanding how we can be sure.
When the request is wrong…God will say NO.
When the timing is wrong…God will say WOAH!
When you are wrong…God will say GROW.
When you’re right and the timing is right…God says LET’S GO!
When it comes to prayer, we have to remember that there is a spiritual side and a practical side. The spiritual side is what only God can do, but the practical side is what YOU can do. It’s easy to acquiesce our responsibility in prayer by putting all the owness on God, but throughout the scriptures we see the importance of us PREPARING for the things we are PRAYING for God to do.
2 Kings 3:9-12 highlights a story of preparing for the things we’re praying and believing for. Three kings of God’s people (King Joram, King Jehosephat, and the King of Edom) gathered as a battle against the Moabites was ensuing. One King looked at the battle and said, “It’s hopeless.” While the other King asked to take the matter to prayer under the guidance of one of Israel’s prophets. The prophet Elisha directed them to do something strange. They were to dig ditches to catch water the Lord promised to provide.
As we pray, God may be looking at our faith and asking, “Are they ready for what they’re praying?” In challenging times, do we, like King Joram, say, “It’s hopeless”?
We’re invited to come to prayer with faith rather than complaint or fear.
We must “dig our ditches” to be able to hold the blessing that God wants to give. Digging isn’t glamorous or fun—it’s work. But once the trenches are done, God can fill them in a supernatural way.
God will direct not only you, but your enemies, when you’ve prepared for your prayers to be answered.
God miraculously shifted the entire battle in the favor of His people, but only after they prayed and prepared. Are you willing to pray and prepare for your victories too?
