Episode 85: It’s All About Timing
When it comes to faith, understanding God’s timing can be the hardest part of belief. Yet, time is the way God prepares, transforms, and pushes us towards new life-chapters.
TIME TRUTH #1: To God, time is a TOOL. It’s THE tool He uses to prepare, transform, and push us forward in our life story.
In the book of Genesis, we see the life of a man named Joseph. His story begins as an arrogant teen and ends as a powerful, yet humble ruler in Egypt. God uses time to mold and direct him so when it’s time for him to lead, he’s ready, equipped, and adequately mature.
Genesis 37 shows Joseph as a teenager, sharing the dreams God has given him with his brothers. His brothers are jealous and cruel, and Joseph’s dream of leading his brothers (even to the point of them bowing down to him) have them seething in mocking anger. Joseph’s father, Jacob, has fostered a household of favoritism towards Joseph, adding more dysfunction to this family dynamic.
TIME TRUTH #2: Our family of origin doesn’t harm our call, it refines it. God uses even the sin and poor choices of our family to display His power and grace.
Later in Genesis 37, his brothers have had enough. After pushing him into an empty well, they decide to sell him to Ishmaelite travelers instead. They pull him out of the pit and sell him off. Just as God has a plan for our lives, so does Satan. At this point, Satan’s trying to make Joseph crumble under the weight of abandonment and abuse, but he doesn’t. He keeps moving forward, faithfully.
TIME TRUTH #3: When God seems mute, stay faithful. To God, time is a tool, and he’s using this time to prepare you for a new assignment or opportunity.
Even after wrongfully being thrown into prison, God is at work in Joseph's life, using time as a tool to prepare him for a great future.
TIME TRUTH #4: When hit by debilitating circumstances we can either say, “Why me?” or “Use me.”
Through timeframes, tension, and tenacity, God can use TIME to shape and grow us into the men and women useful to carry out His purpose.
