Episode 101: What’s Up With God’s Timing?

Trusting God is typically not where we fall short. We fall short in trusting His timing! Today’s episode looks at two women who are baffled by God’s timing. Elizabeth is an older woman who has served God faithfully while praying a painful prayer that went unanswered for decades. Mary is a young woman derailed by God’s unexpected timing for an unplanned pregnancy. Both were in perfect step with God and surrendered to the unexpected timing of their God.

In Luke 1:11-16 we see Elizabeth’s husband have an encounter with the angel, Gabriel. After years of prayer, she will give birth to a son who has a unique purpose - leading the way for the Messiah. Her response is “God has seen me in favor and taken away my disgrace!”

Though you may be in a season of misunderstanding when it comes to what God is trying to do, rest assured this season is not wasted. He is preparing and refining you so you’re ready for what you’ve prayed for.

In Luke 1:26-45 we see Mary, a relative of Elizabeth, receiving news from the same angel, Gabriel. Unlike Elizabeth, Mary was NOT praying for what happened to her. God selected her for a life-altering purpose and His timing may have felt off. She’s engaged…not married yet! People won’t understand, and she’ll face ridicule and disbelief. Not the best launch into adulthood, and yet, it was God’s timing and plan.

Mary traveled quickly to be with Elizabeth after Gabriel shared that she, too, was pregnant miraculously. They spent three months together which strengthened them for what was ahead.

Even though we may not understand God’s timing, we can lean into the truth that He is perfectly on time, and He sees outcomes we don’t see.
