Episode 93: How To Have A Marriage That Stands The Test of Time: Q&A With Bobby Meacham

Gari and Carla sit down with former NY Yankee, Bobby Meacham, to hear his advice on building a marriage that stands the test of time. How do you stay fresh in love, rather than stale and trying to pull yourself out of ruts?

Meacham believes the key is realizing that over a lifetime of love, you end up married to multiple versions of your spouse. He powerfully describes the five men he’s been, in the love affair he’s had with Gari, and how within each version, he’s grown and learned from the mistakes, and costly detours they endured along the path together.

Bobby and Gari share publicly how their marriage almost crashed and burned due to infidelity. In an emotional story about encountering God and being real with himself, Bobby explains how blame and deflecting problems on to your spouse must go. In order to heal and get to the marriage you want, he believes you must face who you are truthfully, and quit waiting for the other person to change. The Meacham’s share the criteria they believe must be in place for a broken marriage to rebuild. They believe the best way to act in a long-standing love is, “Treat each other like a friend you’re just getting to know and want to love well.”

This is an episode filled with authentic truths and deep trust in the God who loves marriage.
