Episode 19: Staying in the Game Feat. Bobby Meacham

At the beginning of every year we talk about resolutions and starting the year off strong. But how many of us actually stay with our goals and commitments? Starting is easy—finishing well takes commitment, tenacity, and spiritual grit. Never has quitting looked so attractive. Pastors and ministry leaders are quitting. People in marriages are quitting. Businesses and dreams are disappearing as the going gets hard. How can we finish well and stay in the game, even when life threatens to overtake our peace and plan?

In this episode, we welcome Gari’s baseball man, Bobby Meacham, to the show! He’s been in pro-baseball for over 37 years after being a first-round draft pick in college. He played shortstop for the NY Yankees; and following a ten-year career in both the minor and major leagues, he became a professional coach and manager for over eleven MLB teams. He’s currently a major league coach for the Phillies.

We asked Bobby how his definition of success has changed over the years. With complete candor, Bobby explains the life and mentality of a sports star, and the painful truth about pride. He also shares how his choices brought near destruction to his marriage through infidelity. Now a platform of healing and hope, the dead areas of life were uprooted so new fruit could grow. He speaks deep spiritual truths about what it means to really stay in the game and how to finish well. We believe that the principles we talk about in this episode will carry you not just in 2021, but the rest of your life!
