Episode 78: Let’s Talk About Asbury & Revival

For weeks people from around the country have flocked to a small university in Kentucky for one simple reason—to experience the presence of God. What started as a normal day of classes and a routine chapel service that the President of the university called “unremarkable,” has captured national attention and sparked the interest of those wanting to connect with God on a deeper, authentic level.

Why is this impacting our country so significantly?

Every few decades God sparks a movement or makes His presence known in an unmistakable way. It’s been a while since a wave of God has hit America. Sadly, we’re used to Satan’s action…not God’s. The recent events in Kentucky remind us that God is real, alive, and simple. It’s not hard or formulaic to reach Him.

Many are afraid to call this move a revival, because with revival, the outpour and change will eventually impact a community, a region, and a country. Time will tell what this movement will be known for.

An important conversation we engaged in during this episode is the difference between an awakening and a revival. An awakening is when people are stirred towards the presence of God. They are touched by His goodness and a sense of sweet fellowship with Him.

Revival is when the church comes to life. There’s a deep sense of repentance and restoration that impacts communities, and as the movement grows—the impact is felt around the entire country.

As the President of the university so beautifully explained, “The embers of a fire after the flames have been large, are the hottest. Once this flame dies down, the fire is at the height of its heat.” This is where people now carry the flames back to their communities and homes.

The point of what’s happening in Kentucky is for people to bring that flame back to their homes, churches, and communities. The presence of God isn’t meant to be hoarded; it’s meant to be shared.
