Episode 110: The Why of Worship

As believers in Christ, we know there’s a battle raging around us, and once we’re born again, we’re placed on the battlefield. Worship isn’t always in the arsenal of weapons we consider when facing spiritual war, but it is one of the strongest tools we can choose when we understand its power.

Worship is not merely music or singing praise. It’s declaring the power and position of God through a heart of love towards Him.

In 2 Chronicles 20:1-9, 12 we see the King of Judah, Jehoshaphat, receiving news that enemy armies are coming against him to destroy him. “Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.” (vs. 3)

When faced with an unexpected battle, instead of panicking, this King began to praise. He declared all the things he knew to be true about God publicly, and faith began to rise.

Worship has the power to shift circumstances by doing three things:

1.    Worship strengthens our spirit and reminds our flesh who is in control.

2.    Worship unlocks deeper levels of faith.

3.    Worship releases breakthrough from the heavenly places into our natural circumstances.

So, what does using worship look like to us practically?

  • It looks like speaking the truth to the Lord (and ourselves) by quoting and declaring what He does and what He’s promised, rather than what we see and how we feel.

  • It’s praying instead of calling that girlfriend you know will commiserate with you but isn’t what you need in that moment.

  • It’s doing something intentional rather than habitual…to worship Him. (Take a prayer walk, put on a good song, pray out loud - rather than zoning out or complaining about the battle rather than fighting with faith.)

This week - choose to use worship as your weapon!
