We interviewed our friend Billie Jauss who shared her wisdom on detoxing from distraction and how to understand friendships - the ones we might not keep forever and the ones that will stay with us always.

Billie explained that we need to understand how to release emotional barriers, restructure priorities, and realize God’s best. But it’s not always easy to do this! She gave us a powerful way to think about detoxing our lives by using the acronym DETOX.

D = determine to look honestly at what our lives have become. Are we stuck cycling around the same bad issues?

E = evaluate by writing down what needs to stay and what needs to go. Critically evaluate our behaviors and responses.

T = terminate damaging thought patterns and behaviors by replacing them with truth and scriptures.

O = outline a plan. It does no good to recognize patterns if we don’t have a plan to change them.

X = execute the plan with prayer and the certainty that God is with us when we decide to move past distractions.

In addition to wisdom on eliminating distractions, Billie’s life in professional baseball has taught her that not all friendships are meant to remain. There are four types of friendships that ripple out in importance. The accidental acquaintance, the social circle, the kindred spirit, and the forever family friend. This helps us realize we can’t cling to every relationship, and when a relationship ends, it may be a natural progression towards new ones blossoming and beginning.
